Here is another tangential avenue to explore—omg, who thought mathematics and linguistics related??

How appropriate! M-N- in Glassalmanac! Prime Target is a new show on AppleTV about a Prime Numbers’ pattern a Cambridge Uni maths student discovers. Prompted me to think M-N- is an analogous discovery. So will read this paper with interest. 👌🏾

Speaking of Welshmen of the surname Jones, who were interested in Ukraine, check out the biography of Gareth Richard Vaughn Jones, whose biography was the topic of the movie, _Mr. Jones_ a couple of years ago. The plot does not follow his life strictly, and in fact, his descendants were unhappy with some key points and characters and relationships added in for audience appeal.

He was kidnapped and assassinated in the 1930’s after revealing the ongoing Stalinist Holodomor Genocide of Ukrainians via articles in the western press. A YouTube video that touches on his family’s history in Ukraine is a BBC Storyville documentary now in the public venue: _Hitler, Stalin and Mr. Jones_. I was friend and colleague to his family and consulted on biographies of him written by the late Margaret Siriol Colley, MD.

Like the Judge Jones you mention in this episode, Gareth’s mother worked in Ukraine, which, for a woman of her generation, was quite singular. If memory serves, her father Might have been the judge you describe.

Anyway, Gareth was a polyglot graduate of Oxford, who worked as a foreign affairs aide to ex-PM David Lloyd George. Gareth’s papers are archived at the University at Aberystwyth. It might be worth looking into for your research.

That’s a great story. Thank you!

⚡️Wales's Parliament Recognises Holodomor as Genocide.

I was pleased to see the Welsh Senedd recognise the Holodomor as genocide. Here is one of the speeches from that day:

"The term 'genocide' was created by Jewish [L'vov educated] lawyer Raphael Lemkin

Lemkin was clear that what we now describe as the Holodomor was an intentional programme of starvation—the third prong of Soviet Russification of Ukraine. In 1953, in a speech given in New York City, Lemkin described the Holodomor as one part of perhaps the 'classic example of Soviet genocide, the longest and most extensive experiment in Russification, namely the extermination of the Ukrainian nation'.

Going on to point out that the Ukrainian is not and has never been a Russian.

Welsh journalist Gareth Jones saw the suffering in Ukraine and told the truth about the horror he found. He was one of the few western journalists who reported on the famine in Ukraine and its causes, and is still considered a hero in Ukraine.

I was pleased to see Gareth being remembered and honoured in his home town of Barry with the unveiling of a memorial plaque in his honour.

This is one of four plaques that have been unveiled in his honour, with others in Aberystwyth, Milan and only several weeks ago, at a ceremony in the national library in Kyiv.

We will be commemorating Gareth Jones and the importance of his work at the event at the Senedd next month. And whilst we honour the resilience and courage of the Ukrainian people in the face of Putin's aggression, we also affirm our commitment to help Ukrainians here in Wales to record their knowledge of war crimes committed in more recent times.

Each of us has been shocked by the brutality of what we have seen and heard from Ukraine since the large-scale invasion began. Since February last year, thousands have been killed and millions more forced to seek refuge. Welsh Government condemns this war, and we, as a nation, will continue to stand against brutality and in solidarity with those who need us..." https://x.com/decodingtrolls/status/1717545675930341783?s=46
